Hello. A few of us from Central IL are thinking of heading to "tropical" St Louis for a ride this weekend. We have about 8 inches of snow on the ground and the trails are virtually unridable. Can you give us some advice on the best trails to hit this time of year? I've heard great things about Chubb but not sure about condition, etc. Are there other trails better for winter riding? Thanks.

I doubt anything will be ridable since tempatures are supposed to be above 30 degrees. Everything will be a muddy sloppy mess.

Is there a lot of snow on the trails now? We were thinking of arriving early (7:30) so hopefully the temps would still be right around freezing. Definitely don't want to do any damage so I guess well keep an eye on the forecast.

There is a couple inches on the ground now, but with rain in the forcast and temps in the low 40's by the end of the week... its not looking to good for MTB riding in the stl area this weekend.

The West Tyson side of Chubb trail would be your best bet. It's ridable in a much wider array of conditions than any other trail around here. There are a few spots that stay wet but you can usually get around them. As long as we don't get a ton of rain you should be fine as long as you stick to the West side. The flats will be a mess.

Yeah, there's about a half inch or so of snow on the ground. High is supposed to be 44 degrees tomorrow which will turn the trails into muddy sloppy messes.
