Due to popular demand, St. Charles County Parks will be expanding the Moonlight Bike Ride Program for 2009. There will be rides available in the winter, spring, summer, and fall, so we should have some nice weather for at least one of them. Like last year, all of them are taking place within a day of a full moon, and GORC will have guides available (GORC's National Mountain Bike Patrollers) for those who would like them.

Sorry, but we've had too much rain to have a safe event this evening. [V] THE FRIDAY (5/8/09) MOONLIGHT RIDE IS CANCELLED. If you want to take part in our next Moonlight Ride, please join us June 6th @ Indian Camp Creek Park. Thanks.

The Moonlight Ride for ICCP this Saturday nite (6/6/09) IS ON! For various reasons, we're asking you to park in the lot for Shelter #3. (The one with the Red Roofed pavillion, next to the windmill.) The trail is a little rough in areas from the recent rain/flash flooding, but we'll be able to use the "upper" section for sure. We'll check the "flats" that run next to the creek Saturday around dinner time to see if they've dried out enough to safely use, but we might have to skip that section this time. If part of your group isn't comfortable on singletrack in the dark, the asphalt road that goes around the park will be open as well. If you have any questions, please post them here.

We've got another Moonlight Ride coming up this Thursday, September 3rd, @ ICCP. Start the holiday weekend the right way! NOTE: The start~event time is earlier this month to reflect the diminishing sunlight. (7:30 p.m.~10:30 p.m.) We'll make a decision later this week about using the "flat" trails along the Big Creek, once we see how much they dry from the recent rains. The lot we meet in will be announced after we make that decision. UPDATE: Please meet at the normal trailhead, in the first lot after the bridge. Thanks. If you have any questions, please post them here. Thank you.

Due to all the rain and flooding of the creek at Quail Ridge Park, the MOONLIGHT RIDE IS CANCELLED. We will try to ride Bangert Island on December 4.

Time for the last Moonlight Ride of 2009. Here's the important stuff . . .

Who: St. Charles County Parks (SCCP's), with a little help from GORC, is hosting a Moonlight Ride for mountain bikes.

Where: Bangert Island. Please meet at the Boathouse (see directions below), so we can get everyone signed in. The Boathouse is roughly a mile North of the Bangert Island trails we're riding, accessible via the Katy Trail. For written directions to the Boathouse, + a Google map link, click this.

When: Friday, December 4th, 2009. Riding from 7 p.m.~10 p.m.

Miscellaneous stuff: "Signing in", (signing the release forms) is a SCCP's requirement. We also ask that you check out when you're done riding for the evening. There will be a SCCP employee at Bangert's entrance for check out and late arrivals, but it will get kind of messy if we try to register 40 riders in that little opening.

GORC/NMBP Patrollers will be available to act as guides. Please use your red NMBP jerseys/number plates if you're a Patroller so the general population knows where to go for assistance, if needed.

A post ride get together is possible, but nothing is planned yet. Stay tuned, we might cook something up at the monthly GORC meeting this Wednesday.

Questions? Please post them here.

UPDATE: I swung by late Thursday afternoon, and took out the "jump" the local bmxers put in (thanks for the report Mr. B [^].) A couple of the corners are still greasy, but the wind/sun today will help pull most of that moisture out of the ground.

The majority of the trails are nice and hard packed (unlike last year), so it's just a matter of dressing for the temps. See ya tonight.

Looks like Friday night will be a good opportunity for campfire stories and to warm the extremeties in between laps!

Thanks for the update. Should be fun regardless of the cold.
