Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to give a quick update of what's been happening since our website launch on Friday.
On Friday March 29th our site went live but was noticeably slow and even loading with errors and timeouts. Eventually the site was unreachable until Saturday afternoon or so. Spry Digital worked all night after our launch party to get the site running again. They ended up moving our new site to a different server but kept our message board on the server that was causing issues - it seemed to be behaving but they were running diagnostics.
On Sunday, website users couldn't register for upcoming trail building events due to a captcha (those goofy spam prevention phrases) glitch not resolving to the temporary URL address. This was a side effect of moving our main site to a different server.
On Monday (today as I write this) around 1:30 or so the new forum went down but the current site remained working. This occurred because the original server that was the initial cause of slow load times and glitchy performance finally crashed its brains out - like completely. Spry Digital managed to get the forum moved over to the same server that houses our new site and rebuilt it from a backup that saved the forum at 11:30 pm Sunday night.
From Spry Digital this afternoon:
That server failed completely today. We are still investigating
but the issues last week were probably related to the impending failure,
especially since your site is running fine on the new server. I'll send
you more info once we have it sorted out.
What this means:
1. GORC and Spry Digital is hoping that no more site issues crop up. Spry feels that the original hosting server was the culprit for all the new site performance and timeout issues.
2. Any posts or members that joined after 11:30 pm Sunday night are in the netherworld and will need to be reposted. My apologies to the Bike Classified folks!
3. I apologize for the website issues - Spry is a great company and they have been working very hard to determine what the underlying cause has been - we are all hoping that the site is stabilized now.
4. Please report any issues here should any arise. Our new website is fairly complex and resource intensive but they are tuning the performance. If I may compare our old site to this one - Our old site was like a '78 Ford Bronco - not complicated and fairly easy to work under the hood but woefully behind the times and holding us back. GORC 3.0 is more akin to a souped up luxury SUV - lots of great features and management capability but a little harder to work under the hood (you need a laptop to diagnose it).
I want to be as transparent as possible with everyone.
Thank you again for all your support. I greatly appreciate it!!
