This is an area where we can plan and discuss the First Sunday ride. Rain, Freeze / Thaw and time change announcements, etc.

Watch this space, please ...

I am "penciling in" a 10:00 start for the main group, and will park/meet at the Dogwood Shelter.

Subject to change and/or adjustment depending on the weather.

Will update things by Saturday afternoon, assuming I remember.

Yours truly will probably get out early (8:00ish start) to,

  1. see if I remember how to ride on singletrack, and
  2. try and beat any thawing action.

I am going to call off the O-Fish-Ul 1st Sunday Ride for February.

While the ground/trails will most likely be frozen solid, it sounds like we've got a high likelihood of every surface - rocks, logs, etc - having a sheen of ice on it.  Some may call that fun, but it kind of goes against the theme of 1st Sunday.  The idea is to get those who normally wouldn't ride at Greensfelder to come out and give it a shot, have some fun, and let someone else be the guide.

If this still sounds like fun, by all means head out there.  I'm sure you won't be the only one riding.

We'll try this again in March.

The weather forecast isn't looking too favorable for a March 1st Sunday Ride.  Will post an update if the front breaks apart and misses us ...

Am watching the weather to see how much rain we get Wed/Thur.  Losta wind forecast for Fri/Sat, so it's possible we can actually have one of these.  Please stay tuned ...

Based on several factors, I'm going to take a chance and hope that conditions support riding.  Occasional dismounts may be needed, so we'll be flexible with the ride.  I'll be at the Dogwood Shelter parking lot at 10:00 (1/4 mile down Hencken from Allenton, on the left), and we'll go from there.

This coming Sunday's ride is on.  As usual the week before the Greensfelder Challenge, I will probably do a ~ 1 hour lap of the race course @ 8:30, with the normal (no - drop) ride starting from the Dogwood Shelter at 10:00.

If you do the 10:00 ride, plan on 2 ~ 2.5 hours of time on the trails.  Make sure you've got the proper amount of water, calories, etc.  Actual ride time is usually ~ 1:30, with the rest being regrouping, resting, etc.  NOTE: 15 20+ riders have confirmed via SLAMB, so we've got a nice crowd forming.

Looks like the majority are intermediate / advanced riders with about 3 or 4 who are at beginner level.

It's that time again!  Last month's ride saw over 20 riders take part in the festivities, so clear the calendar.  I will probably skip the 8:30 "go fast" option this month, but will update the thread if someone else wishes to herd the group.

As usual, keep your eyes here for any changes to the ride due to weather disruptions, etc.

UPDATED 5/31/14 @ 15:40: Due to the rain this week we will be cancelling the June "1st Sunday Ride".  While it MIGHT be ridable for some, it WILL NOT BE for the riders 1st Sunday is designed for.  Perhaps we can get this event in for July.

Off to research a long gravel route ...

It's ON!

Meet at the Dogwood Shelter in time to roll @ 10:00.  Looks like it's gonna be a little warm, so make sure you've got enough water carrying capacity for at least 2 hours on the bike.

Hey guys, plan to hang out after the ride and bring your own post ride refreshments.  I'm bringing some brats and buns and plan to stick around for a little while.  Lawn chairs are a good idea too.  Will also bring ladder golf.  If you can only stay for a little bit, at least stay for a beer.

Got our grill master  thanks supradude who will be riding with the 10am group.  I have a couple dozen brats, some chips and some tollhouse cookies.  Sound good?  Will share my Budweiser too because I'm also bringing wine. Let's plan on a 1145/1200 start time after the 10am group comes in.  If anyone get there before we all get back, go ahead and fire up the grill.  :)
