We are actually privately meeting with Bekin today - Matson DH is not a topic that will be formally discussed at the meeting to my knowledge at this point.... Hopefully that will all change soon.

I am pumped to hear about a possible DH at Matson. I cannot wait, post when trail building is starting and i'll try to make it out to help one weekend. I know i'll ride it a lot if it has some jumps/drops along the way.

I may be speaking out of turn here also but at the Indian Camp Creek race in June I was talking informally with a member of the St. Chas parks dept and his comment was that this project would not be supported. Their view was that there would be plenty of people to help build it but there would not be enough over the long run to maintain it and these types of trails need more TLC to keep them viable (I'm paraphrasing here). But, since I had this discussion after the endurance race and had a few beers I'd suggest contacting them to see if what I heard was accurate. If this is the only (or main) obstacle maybe it could be overcome with a plan.

I dont want to speak out of turn, but I do believe that this project has been thwarted by the parks department, and we were denied access to building there.
(Please note that I did not attend the meetings that Amanda and Pimp Daddy were at - the following is what was forwarded to me by my normal contacts at SCCP's. If I get something wrong, I hope that those two may take a moment to correct me ...)
The future plans and development at Matson were the largest stumbling blocks mentioned to me - traffic concerns, parking, etc.
While there is a chunk of land on the newer Matson/Hayes section that is untouched so far, it was scouted and GPS'd over 5 years ago. Development of that area is planned in the next phase of construction, but that is several years down the road. How much - if any - of what we looked at will be usable for XC or downhill/flow type trail after the project is completed is an unknown. The unused portion of the hillside that Klondike's Hogsback trail is on was offered by SCCP's as an alternate site, but I haven't heard if anyone has gone out to scout it to see if it is suitable for this groups needs.
If I hear of anything useful I will pass it along.

Which part of Hogsback is unused? That is STEEP terrain, could be interesting, but it appears that most of that hill is already being used, unless they are talking about the section in the middle of the current trail.
