This is an area where we can plan and discuss the First Sunday ride. Rain, Freeze / Thaw and time change announcements, etc.

UPDATE ON PARKING LOCATION AS OF AUGUST 2015

This rides takes place at Greensfelder at 10am. Going forward we will meet in the Visitor's Lot on Allenton Rd.  It is the loop parking lot at the intersection of Allenton and Hencken.

Look for a bunch of mountain bikers and if you don't know anyone in the group, ask if they are with the GORC First Sunday ride.

I-44 to Exit 261/Six Flags, right onto Allenton Rd. Follow Allenton up the hill to Hencken Rd. Turn right into the Visitor's Center across from Hencken Road.

There are still a few of us riding this morning. And we have a fat biker to lay down the tracks for us. Come on out. Snow ride!

Note: If coming park at the visitors center as it's the only lot plowed.

Haven't seen any trail condition updates for Greensfelder since the recent rain and flooding.  Does anyone know how conditions will be for the GORC 1st Sunday ride on January 3?

I'm riding there in the morning, I'll post up. I'm expecting frozen and bumpy in the morning with greasy spots by 10-11am and unridable by noon.

+1 as to what Mr. Falls said.

I seem to remember all the SE trails - DeClue from the eastern side of Allenton to north of the Visitors Center - getting soft the quickest.  This includes Dogwood, which receives significant sunlight this time of year.

Fossil Ridge seems fairly rocky, but the newest Beulah connector stuff (forgot the correct name) seemed less "gravelly"/more organic soil in the tread.  I've only ridden a small part of it - once - so don't know how it responds to precip, freeze/thaw, etc.

Please let the rest of us know how soon things turn soft.  We have the same temps pattern until Wednesday-ish.

Trails were in excellent shape today - I took a long family hike between 9am and 1pm and we dealt with some freeze/thaw between 11am and 1pm, but not as bad as I anticipated.  There were horses, hikers, and bikers all out until we left at 1pm and some all were leaving only superficial marks.  However, I think anyone out after 1pm was going to start doing some more permanent damage in wetter/sunnier places.

To be safe, I recommend moving the First Sunday Ride tomorrow to between 8am and 10am.  Best practice would definitely be to be off single track by 11am, unless you know very specific trail segments that are already dry.
