Mini-workday is planned for next Saturday, Aug 1.

Meet at 8 am in the main parking lot. Put in what time you can. It all helps.

Goal is to work in 2 areas depending on group size.

Matson is showing some heavy wear and erosion areas. Just like all of you, I'd love to see all of this park return to the flowy trail that it was just a few years ago. It is one of the best trails in the area in my opinion, but needs some TLC.

PM myself or Craig with any questions or ask them here. RSVP here so we can get an idea of attendance.

These is an unofficial workday so no lunch will be provided. Bring a Camelbak FULL of water and don't forget the bug spray.

Thanks,

Gary

I can only think of two things to add right now -

  • are you new to this, and don't know what's going on, or how to prepare?  Please read the following link for more info; http://forum.gorctra...l-building-day/.  Questions are expected and encouraged, so feel free to post them here or PM Gary or myself.
  • No, that's right, NO previous experience required (new workers/trail users welcome).  We all have to start somewhere, and a smaller event like this one will allow more one on one time if you would like to quiz any of us on the how's and why's of trail work.

Hope to see a bunch of people there!

Well, I tried to upload a map with the plan but having trouble........but there is a plan so we can get right to it.

I'll bring some extra copies. There is some immediate work we need to do on a trail section that is falling away from erosion. It is labeled ARM 1 on my map.

If a sawyer shows up, with a saw of course : )  there is 1 tree still down. It is right down the hill from the parking lot.

And there is a big reroute to plan at RR4 on my map. Collective and creative input will be invaluable for this spot. We have to figure a way around all of this mud.......

Thanks

when posting if you look to lower right you will see "more reply options". click that and you will be taken to the FULL editor where you can upload/attach files. It's not too intuitive but that's how the forum works and I can't streamline that part. Hope that helps?

Worst case you can forward it to me, and I'll post it.

I passed your latest tree down description along to the KLD Park Super, and he was hoping to get to that (and start some trimming) yesterday.  I'll bring a saw and safety gear anyway, so we have the option to cut if the need arises.

Original post edited for next Saturday Aug 1st.

For yesterday the heavy rain stayed away and a few of us performed some work that needed to be immediately accomplished.

All trees were cleared by Parks Dept. plus yesterday we cleared a major limb that had fallen. Armor sections 1 and 2 on map have been repaired.

Hope to see you out there next Saturday.....

......and don't forget the night ride next Friday!

I'll plan on seeing you guys there. It'll be my 1st time. If anyone needs anything specific let me know. I don't have a whole lot of "trail" tools, but if it's needed, and I have it, I'd be happy to bring whatever.

Thanks for the offer, but we have SCCP's Tool Trailer available to us.  It sounds like we have enough participation to warrant bringing it out, so we'll also have some loaner gloves and (protective) eyeglasses available.  With this being your 1st event, please read thru this link so you know more about what to expect.

If anyone has any questions, please fire away.  Thanks!

From the "What to expect at a Workday" Link..........

Seems there are more than a few first timers so I reposted here plus updated one line and added a line

General Items:

-Water is sometimes, but not always provided. Most people either wear a
Camelbak, or bring their own water bottle, just in case.

-Snacks. No food provided on mini-workdays so bring plenty of snacks

-Glasses. To keep flying debris out of your eyes. Glasses are sometimes provided, but you can wear your cycling glasses.

-Insect repellent. Some of the parks where we work have loads of ticks, so it's a good idea to bring this.

-Gloves. You'll definitely need these. A pair of work gloves is best, but you can wear cycling gloves too.

-Boots

-Bring a hat. The flies can be a nuisance.

Thanks to all of those that came out today. We got some much needed maintenance accomplished plus a small reroute.

If you like this trail work make sure you check the official Fall Work Day schedule.

We need experienced people like yourselves at these events.........plus lunch is provided : )

Thanks,

Gary

I finally got a chance to ride Matson Hill again this afternoon. A BIG Thank You to everyone who worked on the mini workdays to reroute and armor some of the problem areas. This trail was in great shape and the reroutes flow very smothly. The vegetation wasn't bad at all as it seems it was trimmed back recently. I cant wait for the fall work days to give back what I can to this great trail!
