Fall Means Trail Building GORC Is Back in Full Swing This Fall

Hello and welcome to the beginning of the GORC 2015 Fall Trail Building season! The weather is perfect for riding and the trees are beginning their long shutdown procedure. But not GORC!

We're kicking off this email newsletter with a bunch of great news that will hopefully get you out on our local trails. The weather has been good overall after we got the June monsoon month out of the way. As you know that knocked out the Greensfelder Challenge for the year. But fear not, it'll be back next year!

We've got more mileage planned for several parks including continuing the major reboot of Beulah trail at Greensfelder and continuing to build and adjust the Rock Hollow (aka Zombie) trail in St. Louis County. Matson Hill will receive some trail love through some minor reroutes and trail maintenance and over in Illinois the beloved SIUE trail network will also be seeing some maintenance and trail improvements.

And what would the fall be without our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party?! Stay tuned for details but mark your calendar for a day of hanging out at Greensfelder to build trail and stay for the party.

Plan to see the GORC Trailhead Newsletter flying into your email box as we have more announcements the rest of the season. We hope to see you on the trails.

Greensfelder Trail Build Trail Building Day #1

This Saturday (RSVP Here)

When: Saturday, September 19th, 2015 - 9am:1pm

What:
If you've ridden Fossil Ridge and the new stuff on Beulah then get ready to help out to continue extending the trail!!! We will also be finishing up a big drain crossing and benchcutting some tread that is still too sloped. We will finish building out the second phase of a multi-phase project to renovate the Beulah trail in Greensfelder Park.  We will continue where we left off.  As usual, we have a good size group of non-experienced volunteers scheduled to be there, so the more experienced trail builders we have on hand the better.

Where:
Greensfelder Park, Allenton Rd. behind Six Flags. NOTE: Park at the Beulah Shelter located about a half mile down Scenic Loop Road - the road inside the park. Lunch will be provided at Beulah Shelter.

What to bring: Gloves, Sturdy shoes, eye protection, and something to drink on the trail.

Lunch will be provided by St. Louis County. If you post here there is no need to contact St. Louis County. If you would like a vegetarian sandwich, please let us know.

Bring your bike and ride the trails after the build, weather-permitting.

RSVP for the Event

Please RSVP so we can get an accurate count for lunch.

GORC Volunteers

What we need: LOTS of GORC people to show up and help out. There are four primary areas where we need assistance during the event. They are:

  • The registration table
  • The GORC  information table
  • Skillz Area: Explain the skills needed at that station, and be as big of a cheerleader as possible!. (Guidelines and Materials needed for each skill will be provided.)
  • Group ride leaders (leading/sweeping a group ride on course @ Broem).

Parents:

Register to attend this FREE event with your children by visiting the St. Charles County Parks and Rec website.
