Wondering if anyone has a pair of these and how they would rate them for comfort and in extreme cold.   I have been interested in the Lake mxz303's but can't find a size that fits comfortably (need a 38W but they don't make them).

Karen,

I have tried both the Wolvhammer and MXZ's on in a back to back show room comparison. Both boots are very well made and feature Vibram soles, The 45North boots uses a cinch (Salomon shoes) system as the closure whereas the Lake uses the BOA system.  I felt the 45N boots were a little too sloppy fitting for my taste and understand that winter shoes aren't going to fit like summer shoes. The Lakes run small and I had to size up 1.5 sizes.  My road test ride with the Lakes was this past Tuesday, 33 degrees and cloudy, North wind, medium pair of smart wool socks. 35 minutes in I could tell they were not going to be warm as expected. 1 hour and my toes were done as in freezing cold. The marketing manager who I spoke with at Lake was surprised when I contacted him about my disappointment, Claims they are good to zero F.  Needless to say they have been returned. Maybe its me but winter boots aren't much better than a pair of booties with heat packs.  Good luck,

I am a bit surprised by this as well.  I grabbed a pair of the Lakes last season and used them in 8 degrees and above with no problems (I sized up as well).  A few week ago I was out when it was 4 degrees and all I had on was a somewhat thicker non-wool sock on.  My toes were just a tad cold, but nothing unbearable.  A pair of wool socks would have fixed it.  They are the best piece of winter biking gear I have ever bought.  Well worth the money.  I always found those shoe cover to be worthless below 30.
