St. Louis County Parks have closed both Spring Valley and Bluff Trails to all users during the construction of the paved trail.

The construction appears to be moving along very well.

Hopefully the project will be completed on or ahead of schedule.

Please respect the County's wishes during this time.

Here is a link to more detailed info on the project

http://greatriversgr....org/cliffcave/

This trail will be part of the Great Rivers Greenway system.

As the project progresses I'll post approximate completion date.

I believe the original time frame was for some time late fall.

I  THINK TO  COMPLETELY  CLOSE THE UPPER PART OF THE SPRING VALLEY TRAIL IS NOT NECESSARY. IM ALL FOR ADDING TO THE TRAIL SYSTEM IN OUR ARE AREA , AS WE HAVE  AWESOME CHOICES TO CHOOSE FROM IN THE AREA , BUT THE NEW PAVED PORTION GOING THROUGH SPRING VALLEY ONLY CROSSES IN 2 PLACES , WHICH CAN BE AVOIDED . THAT LEAVES 99 % OF THE TRAIL PLENTY USABLE , AND TO LEAVE A SINGLE TRACK TRAIL SYSTEM DORMANT FOR 7 OR 8 MONTHS IS NOT IDEAL AT ALL ESPECIALLY DURING SUMMER MONTHS

No one likes to lose a great trail like this for any period of time, myself included.

What we have to remember is that this is the Parks call.

They have their reasons and safety is a big one.

Heavy equipment will be very active, Telegraph Rd. is the access point for everything coming in and going out of the Spring Valley side of the project.

Until the County opens these back up, let's be responsible riders and adhere to their wishes.

Thanks for everyone's understanding.

Things seem to be moving along.

Trees have been removed from corridor and trail is 'roughed in'.

Still a long way from pavement.

I did notice they have built a pad to support the crane that will place the bridge over the road.

This is a very extensive project, way too early for any completion estimate.

Original estimate was for late fall of this year.

Things are moving along, the whole park is slated to be closed the last week in July to install the bridge over the road.

They still need to build the overlook, build retaining walls on Spring Valley side and then pavement will be one of the last things.

I spoke with the landscape architect last week and hope be walking the Bluff side soon with the County project manager and architect to see what will need to be done.

If I can find out an estimated completion date, I'll post up.

I miss Cliff Cave too....

Thanks for the update.  How are the trails surviving the lack of use?

I guess there will be a lot of cleanup and brush work once the trails open up again.

Here's an update for Cliff Cave.

The project is moving along very well.

Can't really give a firm completion date, but late November could be possible.

Walked Bluff Trail with County project manager and landscape architect.

All the nice rock garden sections  are fine, a little overgrown but that's easy to take care of.

Several hundred feet of trail will need to be re routed near the bridge across road.

Scouted  it and it looks to offer a really nice technical ride along rocky outcrops.

At the very top the new overlook is almost complete and really is nice!

About 25 or 30 yds of trail dropping down from the overlook will need to be rerouted.

This section is a steep fall line rain guttered section that I had previously scouted to replace.

In order to tie it in to the existing trail, we will put in maybe 5 or 6 hundred feet of trail.

This section should be really fun to ride, switching and winding down at a sustainable rate.

I plan to begin working on both of these sections.

Anyone interested in helping, send me an email.

I do need to let the supervisor know when we will be there.

Did not know that it was open.

Am about 99% sure that while Kevin has permission to be on the trails to work on them, both Spring Valley and the Cliff Side are still closed.

Craig is correct, trails are still closed.

The project is in the final phase though, keeping my fingers crossed for a year end completion.

They are really putting everything into it and hopefully mother nature allows them to keep it going!
