In addition to the weeds, there's some cleanup needed at SIUE.

Who would be open to getting together on the Sat. the 14th. to start?

I'm sure it could use other dates as well if you can't make that date (I know I'm questionable).

Also please reply if you've been out there recently and have ideas on which areas need attention.

Glenn and I have started discussing going out w/chainsaws, but need swampers to help clear the debris as it's being cut.  If it's like the ice storm from '06-ish, the trees will also have brought down a ton of vines, so loppers/pack saws are probably a good idea, too.

Questions?

pete and i hiked trail 1 last night.  we counted about 6 trees that need chainsaw. We could meet up after work in evenings if any sawyers are available or will plan on 7/14 work day.  we'll try to hike other trails to get good idea of where trees are that need cutting.

I may be able to be there on the 14th. I'm having furniture delivered so it depends on what time they come.

Edit: It doesn't look like I'll make it. Furniture is being delivered at 11:00, and I have to move the old stuff before they come. I'll keep watch for the next work day.

Attached is a map with the downed areas marked.

Attached File  siue_07082018_map.pdf   200.79KB   107 downloads

Red is a tree that needs to be cut.

Blue is vines.

1 - a few downed areas primarily prior to the split that goes to 3.

2 - this is the worst a large tree has fallen and hit both the upper and lower trails.  The upper area is worst and probably best approached from the base of the downed tree - which means approaching it from the airfield side (as opposed to from the Deloyte trail side).

3 - I lost GPS on 3 so I had to just put a general comment - the downfall here I can probably handle with my little electric saw. There are at least 3 small areas down on 3. Could also use some trimming mainly from Cougar V. to 4 and the bottom land part of the trail between Cougar V. and Poag Rd.

4 - Could use some Trimming - primarily from service road to 3 (usual places) I opened up the entrance on the service road but didn't clean it up nicely. There is also a downed evergreen jutting into (but not blocking) the trail - this is in the little grove of evergreens closer to the bike trail side of 4 - I missed marking it on the map so don't have an exact location

5 - did not get to 5

6 - tree down as marked

We ended up with 18 people. Should have all the trees cleared unless the storm brought more down. Trails 1 & 2 were trimmed.
