My 6 year old daughter has outgrown her old helmet and Im in the market for a new one for her. Anybody have any good experiences with certain helmets for their kids? I want it to be safe and light weight so she will actually wear it. Also any recommendations of local shops that stock a lot of kids helmets so we might be able to try on? Thanks

As with adults, any helmet you find at a local shop is going to be held to the same standards as any other options available as far as safety. Some are going to fit certain heads better than others, so what works for someone else’s kid might not work as well for yours. The best thing to do is go in and try them on. Past that, it’s all about color/design choice. I’d suggest something other than black so your kid’s noggin isn’t cooking in the hot hot sun. The Hub in Webster Groves has an ample supply of kid's helmets to choose from. I assume most other shops would as well. A phone call prior to heading there might be a good idea to make sure there’s more than one option.

I got my niece a Lazer helmet when she was about 6 though.

Specialized helmets fit good and come in lots of color choices and are pretty easy to get locally. Giro has some kind of trade in program but I have never cashed in on the deal.
