Broke what was left of my packsaw at Matson cutting a 3.5" tree off the trail.  The saw blade tip broke long ago and now the saw broke off the handle (no crazy sawing, it just simply broke).  Pretty sure it was a cheap saw, so now looking to replace.  Want something that folds and is light or course, but really something that won't break on me and can get through at the very least a 3.5" tree or limb.  Not too concerned with price as long as I can get some solid use out of it and will last for a few years.  What do you guys recommend?  Thanks.

I have used a Sthil PS30 for about 5 years now. Compact with good TPI.  The best part, Lifetime warranty at any Stihl dealer with receipt which is nice when you break a blade 2x a year.

I picked up a "handheld chainsaw" off of ebay for like $10 or less. It's a length of chain about 20" in length with two handles made of nylon webbing, takes up less space in my hippack than a packsaw, and absolutely rips through most of the downed limbs/trees that I come across on the trail. it can be quite a workout at times, but if you got a buddy with you that's as motivated for a quick cleanup as you, then just trade off

Picked up the Stihl FS30.  Reviews on Stihl's site don't seem too promising regarding the blade breaking, but as I was at the dealer the Stihl rep happened to be in there and was actually surprised to hear that.  In any case, he also pointed out the lifetime warranty so not too big of a deal I guess (except if it breaks mid cut).  It feels a slightly cheap(ish) in the hands even though it cost me around $40.00.  We'll see how it handles soon enough.

Well that didn't take long.  The Sthil PS30 is pure junk.  For $45 and the Stihl name, I expected better.  The tip broke almost instantly and the blade was bending every which way on the first tree it touched.  Wasn't cutting dumb or crazy either.  Took it back to the dealer and I exchanged it and have the FS40 on order.  With a straight, fixed 7" blade it should mean a tougher, stronger saw.  If this one doesn't work out I'll move away from Stihl and try one of those blades from that Project Farm video referenced above.

I've been useing the same Corona folding saw for 10 years now without a single issue, and its still sharp as can be!  With a 10" blade it will cut up to a 6" tree.
